Jon Landau, Oscar-winning 'Avatar' and 'Titanic' Producer, Dies at 63

Longtime collaborator of director James Cameron

Landau, who also worked with Bruce Springsteen, was known for his work on some of the world's highest-grossing movies of all time

Jon Landau, the Oscar-winning producer of some of the world's highest-grossing movies of all time including Titanic and Avatar, has died aged 63.

Landau died of cancer on Friday July 5 2024, according to Variety which first reported the news.

The producer was a longtime collaborator of director James Cameron, and helped bring to life some of the most iconic films of the past few decades.

Landau won an Academy Award for Best Picture for producing Titanic in 1997, and was nominated for the same award for Avatar in 2009 and Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022.

He also produced films such as Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), True Lies (1994), and Alita: Battle Angel (2019).

Before his career in film, Landau was a music critic, manager, and record producer who worked with Bruce Springsteen in all three capacities.

He is survived by his wife Julie Landau, and their two children.
